Celebrating the Life of Dave Carpenter
The jazz world is all saddened at the passing of bass great Dave Carpenter.
Dave Carpenter, favorite bassist of drummer Peter Erskine, passed away suddenly of a heart attack yesterday, June 24, 2008. He leaves a legacy as both musician and friend to many that will live on in recordings, memories and the great man that was Dave.

Dave Carpenter's passing has shocked and devastated his family, friends, and collaborators across the world. He was my favorite bassist ever since I first heard him ten years ago when he started playing with Peter Erskine et al, in L.A. Only having met him on a few occasions, I nevertheless felt I had met a gentle soul who also was a rare musical genius. May Dave's legacy inspire future generations of bass players, as he will be sorely missed, and never will be forgotten. Thank you, Mr. Reid, for remembering Dave on your fine website.
