Drummer-less recordings

I have a growing collection of recordings that do not include a drummer. I know I’m not alone in this…these recordings provide me (and my students) great opportunities to not only work on grooves and styles, but to learn repertoire and to experience the time feel of some of the greatest musicians on the planet. Of course it can’t replace what is experienced from playing with other musicians in person, but is maybe the next best thing. Among the recordings that I have in this collection are (in no particular order):

  • Benny Green, “These are Soulful Days”

  • Benny Green, “Naturally”

  • Kenny Barron/Dave Holland, “The Art of Conversation”

  • Kenny Barron/Buster Williams, “Two As One”

  • Kenny Barron/Charlie Haden, “Night and the City”

  • Tal Barlow, “The Swinging Guitar of Tal Farlow”

  • Christian McBride/Nicholas Payton/Mark Whitfield, “Fingerpainting”

  • Diana Krall, “Love Scenes”

What other recordings do you have like this?

Blessings to you today!
